Editor's note

Ah, February – the month of love and roses. While this month’s issue has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day (I would never allow it), it is rather themed the cynical rant Issue. Creative editor Artwell Nwaila took a closer look at ads he hates and asks ‘Does it really matter that I hate your ad?’ Joanne Carew braved sending questions to a few columnists: Andile Mngxitama, Lili Radloff and Ivo Vegter. Our new assistant editor Libby Allen reflects on the Twitter wars we see breaking out, while Samantha Cook considers just what Mark Esterhuysen’s late night rant on radio got him last year. In her last piece for us, Nikita Gomes Achadinha gets all hot under the collar about why it’s taking South Africans so long to start putting money into online advertising and Leigh Andrews speaks to Kim Schulze about her bug-bears in an online world in which everyone is a reviewer. It’s not all shouting and screaming, however, as Christine Greyvenstein has something of a rant in reverse when she goes over radio’s feel-good factor. We’ve also included an interview with Andrew Human who is stepping down as CEO of the Loeries after six years at the helm and Darren Gilbert profiles the winners of the Young Creative Awards at last year’s Loeries. We’ll also be adding content on the Click Africa conference mid-month.

We let rip about really annoying ads that aren’t really failures. Columnists, Lili Radloff, Andile Mngxitama and Ivo Vegter talk about stirring controversy. And much, much more ...
